Making the Impossible Possible

I just finished reading one of the most powerful and inspiring books that I have ever read on transforming live. The book is entitled, Making the Impossible Possible. It is by a Mr. Bill Strickland (profile) who is president-CEO of Manchester Bidwell Corporation and its subsidiaries in Manchester, PA. The book discusses the methodology that Mr. Strickland has employed very effectively for the past 30 years to radically transform the lives of those who are damaged souls, disadvantaged or disenfranchised in some way.

I found this book while doing some research online. This book is so powerful and so moving that once I picked it up, I could not put it down. For readers of this blog and for clients of Better Bodies in Training, you know that I have not made any product recommendations in the past. However, whenever I am moved in such a powerful way, I have to share it. Now, I have not been asked by Mr. Strickland nor anyone else to make this recommendation. Nor have I been giving anything in return.  I simply make this recommendation because I believe that this is a book that can put achievement and the quest for a meaningful life in greater perspective.

I will not go into much details about the book's content. I would not want to spoil your discovery of the wisdoms and insights revealed. But I will end this post by saying that if you are struggling to find the meaning and purpose of your life, if you struggle to stay focused and motivated to reach your goals, if you allow others to place limitation on what you believe is possible, then this most definitely a book you want to read.

The Impossible Dream

I have always wondered why there are many of us, who either are unwilling or unable to achieve the seemingly impossible. Yet, there are a few, who despite the circumstances of their existence, despite the obstacles put before them, despite the problems faced, despite the tragedies suffered, despite the odds against them, they not only dream the impossible, but also achieve it.

What is it that this individuals have that far too many of us lack? Are they somehow inherently superior to us in mind, body or character? Do they somehow have some magic powers that permit them to transcend it all; or, do they simply have the faith and belief in themselves and incorporate the characteristics of resolve and grit into the very fiber of their being, that no matter what, no matter who, no matter where, no matter when, or no matter how, the impossible is possible?

The lyrics to this song is so moving and so inspiring to me, I wanted to share it with others. So, below is a copy of the Lyrics by Joe Darion and Music by Mitch Leigh. I do hope that it inspires someone, somewhere to dream the impossible dream.

To dream the impossible dream,
To fight the unbeatable foe,
To bear with unbearable sorrow,
To run where the brave dare not go.

To right the unrightable wrong,
To love pure and chaste from afar,
To try when your arms are too weary,
To reach the unreachable star.

This is my quest,
To follow that star --
No matter how hopeless,
No matter how far.

To fight for the right
Without question or pause,
To be willing to march
Into hell for a heavenly cause.

And I know if I'll only be true
To this glorious quest
That my heart will be peaceful and calm
when I'm laid to my rest.

And the world will be better for this,
that one man scorned and covered with scars
still strove with his last ounce of courage.
To reach the unreachable star.

To dream the impossible dream
To fight the unbeatable foe
To bear with unbearable sorrow
To run where the brave dare not go.

To right the unrightable wrong
To be better far than you are
To try when your arms are too weary
To reach the unreachable star.

This is my quest, to follow that star,
No matter how hopeless, no matter how far
To be willing to give when there's no more to give
To be willing to die so that honor and justice may live

And I know if I'll only be true to this glorious quest
That my heart will lie peaceful and calm when I'm laid to my rest

And the world will be better for this
That one man scorned and covered with scars
Still strove with his last ounce of courage
To reach the unreachable star.

No Matter What- I will achieve!

No matter what people say, no matter what happens, no matter what obstacles are put in your way, no matter what set backs you have, no matter what challenges you face, no matter what problems are born, no matter what trials you endure, do you have what it takes to be better, feel better, do better or have better? Do have what it takes to achieve the impossible?

What Do You Allow to Limit You?

What Do You Allow to Limit You?

Again, this video speaks for itself. What do we, what will we, allow to limit us? Sure there are circumstances in each of our lives that we can't change; so we accept them. But there are many things in our lives, many circumstances, many obstacles, many conditions that we can change, that we can move, that we can modify. Instead of spending our time and energy on what we can't do, why not spend that valuable time on those that we can? After all, if he can do, why not us? Why not me?

What is Your Excuse?

This is one of the most powerful reasons for what do you when you fall down. Too many of us find reasons, make excuses for why we don't reach our goals. Instead of continuing to try, we simply give up. If this brave soul has found the strength and internal fortitude to continue on, what is your excuse?

Testimonial From a Bootcamp Participant

Testimonal From a Bootcamp Participant

I am a 47 year old mom who has been struggling with my weight for the past 10 years.  I have tried other programs to lose weight and I have not been very successful.  Recently I've joined Better Bodies Training and it has been 3 weeks so far,and I have to say that I find this program very appropriately challenging and very rewarding.  I like especially, the early schedule of the program, since I will be done with my exercise for the day before I start my day. I also like the variety of exercises alternating with running and hiking every other day.  Knowledge of our program leader, Chris about the program.  He is also very encouraging when it gets to the point  that its hard to go on.   Every Monday morning you get weighed and monitored for the result of the week.  So, no cheating would be possible on weekends.

I have just entered my fourth week. Even though I have not kept a food log the way the program has asked me to, I have thus far lost about 6 lbs,. 4% bodyfat, and shed 3 inches off my waist; if I keep the food log and keep the recommended calories per day I should be able to lose much faster.   I am enjoying this program very much, and I definitely recommend this to everyone.

First Trial Session for a Fellow Blogger

There are times when we get new recruits in our bootcamps and new 1-on-1 training clients where we know after a couple of days whether they will or will not complete the full 6 week program, but also give 100% to the process to achieve his/her goals.  On Monday, we had the pleasure to have a recruit join our 6AM bootcamp session we believe will not only complete the program, but who has the "right mindset" to reach whatever fitness and weight loss goal she sets for yourself. On top of that she is a fellow blogger. So, I wanted to post in its entirety the blog post entry she made after the first trial session. I have made no content changes and very little formatting changes to her posting.I would also like for you to give me your thoughts on whether you share my view or if you have a different opinion.

So, below you can read your blog posting or click on the link to read the posting directly on her site.

Boot Camp "Commitment or Be Committed"

I must be tired!!! I began writing my blog and posted it after I finished the title. I experience my very first ever BOOT CAMP. I am officially not a boot camp virgin. I have Mr. Chris Bass to thank for that. I have to admit I was hesitant at first, in fact I didn't sleep well the night before. I was suppose to go last wednesday but due to torrential rainfalls it was cancelled. At the time I felt a sigh of relief, this was certainly an Act of God. I now know that boot camp will "rev up the weight loss."
The entire experience was a positive one. Chris was professional and I truly felt in good hands. I'll tell you a few things that put me at ease:
  • Chris asked all the important questions about my health prior to going.
  • He asked if I had any physical limitations. *He also wanted to know what my exercise program was presently, easy "I don't have one."
  • Chris also wanted to know what my goals were. Were they attainable and were they practical.
  • Chris made me aware of what the boot camp "Better Bodies in Training" would entail. He was straight forward and very forthcoming with all the details of what to expect.
I realize now that there are three keys things to success with a good boot camp: GOALS, ROUTINE and MOTIVATION. When you see an example like Chris who walks to walk, it's easy to get motivated. He's not the aggressive militant type, thank the Lord for that. He is more listen closely and I will teach you the way type. He never yelled yet he was heard. He didn't crack jokes yet the participants laughed at times. I think I had a good laugh at myself. There were times throughout the hour that I thought "it looked easier than it was."I felt proud at the end of the session and a little shaky. I guess I should make this official and commit instead of being committed.
I COMMIT TO GOING 4 TIMES PER WEEK TO BOOT CAMP AND WATCHING WHAT I EAT. There you have it I said it, it's in black and white now and I am committed. The last and final thing that I need is your support. I need vindication that I am doing the right thing. I need a pat on the back and words of encouragement. Friends Make the World Go Round. Love Rosy

Getting Up After the Fall

"Our Greatest Glory Consists Not in Never Falling, but in Rising Every Time We Fall" - Oliver Goldsmith

What do you do when you fall? Do you give up? Do you just lay there? Do you complain about what has happened to you? Do you look around to blame someone else for why you are down? Do you wait until someone else comes to pick you up? Are do you simple do what you know that you need to do?  That is, pick yourself up and keep moving forward.

I do not know who the artist is in the video; I found it on Youtube; but I believe it speaks to the greater point of the intro quote. Rise Every Time You Fall! Rise Every Time You Fall! Rise Every Time You Fall! Rise Every Time You Fall! Rise Every Time You Fall! Rise Every Time You Fall! Rise Every Time You Fall! Rise Every Time You Fall!

Fearing Making a Mistake

"The greatest mistake you can make in life is to continually be afraid of making one" Elbert Hubbard

Since starting our business nearly a year ago, we have had the fabulous opportunity to both meet and train a lot of people. Some have been successful in reaching both their fitness and weight goals. Unfortunately, there have been some who, for one reason or another, have failed to achieve any meaningful progress.
